Foods That Burn Fat: the Top 10 Lists

Exact quantities and menus are not listed, just the individual foods, and of course my food intake does vary. I aim to get as many different varieties of fruits and vegetables as possible over the course of every week and there are a lot of substitutions made, so you are not seeing the full list of everything I eat, only what foods I eat most of the time.

I also want to point out that while I don't believe that extreme low carbs are necessary or most effective when you look at the long term, research has shown that there are some definite advantages to a low to moderate carb and higher protein diet for fat loss purposes. These include reduced appetite, higher thermic effect of food and "automatic" calorie control.

Personally, I reduce my carb intake moderately and temporarily prior to bodybuilding competitions. Specifically, it's the foods that are on the starchy carbs and grains list that go down during the brief pre-competition period when I'm working on that really "ripped" look. I keep the green and fibrous veggie intake very high however, along with large amounts of lean protein, small amounts of fruit, and adequate amounts of essential fats.

This list reflects my personal preferences, so this is not a prescription to all readers to eat as I do. It's very important for compliance to choose foods you enjoy and to have the option for a wide variety of choices. In the past several years, nutrition and obesity research - in studying ALL types of diets - has continued to conclude that almost any hypocaloric diet that is not completely "moronic" can work, at least in the short term.

It's not so much about the high carb - low carb argument or any other debate as much as it is about calorie control and compliance. The trouble is, restricted diets and staying in a calorie deficit is difficult, so most people can't stick with any program and they fall off the wagon, whichever wagon that may be.

I believe that a lot of our attention needs to shift away from pointless debates (for example, low carb vs. high carb is getting really old… so like… get over it everyone, its a calorie deficit that makes you lose weight, not the amount of carbs).

Instead, our focus should shift towards these questions:

* How can we build an eating program that we can enjoy while still getting us leaner and healthier?

* How can we build an eating program that helps us control calories?

* How can we build an eating program that improves compliance?

Here's one good answer: Eat a wide variety of high nutrient density, low calorie density foods that you enjoy which still fit within healthy, fat-burning, muscle-building guidelines!

Here are the lists of foods I choose to achieve these three outcomes. This eating plan is not difficult to stick with at all, by the way. I enjoy eating like this and it feels almost weird not to eat like this after doing it for so long.

Remember, habits work in both directions, and as motivational speaker Jim Rohn has said, "Bad habits are easy to form and hard to live with and good habits are hard to form but easy to live with."

These are listed in the order I frequently consume them. So for example, if oatmeal is on the top of the list, it means that is the food I am most likely to eat every single day.

My 10 top natural starchy carb and whole grains

1. Oatmeal (old fashioned)
2. Yams
3. Brown rice (a favorite is basmati, a long grain aromatic rice)
4. Sweet potatoes (almost same as yams)
5. Multi grain hot cereal (mix or barley, oats, rye. titricale and a few others)
6. White potatoes
7. 100% whole wheat bread
8. 100% whole wheat pasta
9. Beans (great for healthy chili recipes)
10. Cream of rice hot cereal

My Top 10 top vegetables

1. Broccoli
2. Asparagus
3. Spinach
4. Salad greens
5. Tomatoes
6. Peppers (green, red or yellow)
7. Onions
8. Mushrooms
9. Cucumbers
10. Zucchini

My top 10 lean proteins

1. Egg whites (whole eggs in limited quantities)
2. Whey or Casein protein (protein powder supplements)
3. Chicken Breast
4. Salmon (wild Alaskan)
5. Turkey Breast
6. Top round steak (grass fed beef)
7. Flank Steak (grass fed beef)
8. Lean Ground Turkey
9. Bison/Buffalo
10. Trout

My top 10 fruits

1. Grapefruit
2. Apples
3. Blueberries
4. Canteloupe
5. Oranges
6. Bananas
7. Peaches
8. Grapes
9. Strawberries
10. Pineapple

Note: I DO include healthy fats as well, such as walnuts, almonds, extra virgin olive oil, flaxseeds, flaxseed oil (supplement - not to cook with), avocado and a few others.

Also, I do eat dairy products and have nothing against them, nor am I lactose intolerant. I simply don't eat as much dairy as the rest of the stuff on my lists. When I eat dairy, its usually skim milk, low or non fat cottage cheese, low or non fat yogurt and low or non fat cheese (great for omelettes).

Last but not least, I usually follow a compliance rate of about 95%, which means I take two or three meals per week of whatever I want (stuff that is NOT on these lists - like pizza, sushi, big fatty restaurant steaks, etc)

I hope you found this helpful and interesting. Keep in mind, this is MY food list, and although you probably couldn't go wrong to emulate it, you need to choose natural foods you enjoy in order to develop habits you can stick with long term. In the fruits and vegetables categories alone, there are hundreds of other choices out there, so enjoy them all!

# 10 Chris Tarrant:

This radio and television presenter, best known for hosting the TV game show 'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?', pursued a number of jobs before finding his feet in television. Tarrant's former roles include long-distance lorry driver, security officer and schoolteacher.

# 9 Chris Eubank:

Chris Eubank is notable for being the only member of our list to have taken up lorry driving after he become famous. October 2003 saw a politically motivated Eubank descending on Whitehall in his personal HGV to protest against the war in Iraq. The former world middleweight champion boxer ended up being arrested for blocking the entrance gates to Downing Street, driving around Parliament Square sounding his horn, with a knife in his pocket, and reversing into a delivery van.

This retired Scottish actor is best known for starring as James Bond in seven Bond films. Heart-throb Connery joined the Royal Navy after leaving school but was discharged on medical grounds. He went on to a succession of jobs, including lorry driver, labourer and lifeguard.

The American singer, musician, actor and cultural icon took up truck driving as one of his jobs after graduation. The future 'King' drove a truck for the aptly named 'Crown Electric Company'. Presley even took up wearing his hair longer with a 'ducktail' - the style of truck drivers at the time. A musician for whom a young Elvis Presley auditioned advised him to 'Stick to driving a truck, because you'll never make it as a singer'.

The Mass Murderer - Peter Sutcliffe:

Quite possibly the most evil and deranged presence in the history of lorry driving, the 'Yorkshire Ripper' is far too nasty to make it into our top 10. Between 1975 and 1984, this lorry driver and former gravedigger killed 13 women in a five-year reign of terror before being sentenced to a minimum of 30 years in jail. On his arrest, Sutcliffe claimed that God had told him to go out and kill prostitutes. A sad blemish on the good name of lorry driving.

Celebrities who were lorry drivers before they were famous - a heady mixture of the talented, the eccentric, the unpleasant and the downright brilliant. Who knows what magical creatures are sitting behind the wheels of our country's lorries today?

Top 10 Tourist Attractions in Delhi/New Delhi

New Delhi, the capital of India and a popular tourist destination, is situated on the banks of river Yamuna in the northern part of India. The best season to visit Delhi is during February to April and August to November. The bloom season of February and March make Delhi colorful. This time of the year brings greenery on the face of Delhi.

Here is a list of top 10 tourist attractions in Delhi/ New Delhi:

1. Red Fort

The Delhi Fort also known as Lal Qila, meaning the Red Fort, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Red Fort and the city of Shahjahanabad was constructed by the Emperor Shahjahan in
1639 A.D. The layout of the Red Fort was organized to retain and integrate this site with the Salimgarh Fort.

The planning and aesthetics of the Red Fort represent the zenith of Mughal creativity which prevailed during the region of Emperor Shahjahan. Red Fort showcases the very high level of art form and ornamental work.

The art work in the Fort is a synthesis of Persian, European and Indian art which resulted in the development of unique Shahjahani style which is very rich in form, expression and colour.

2. Humayun's Tomb
Humayun's tomb is a complex of buildings of Mughal architecture which encompasses the main tomb of the Emperor Humayun as well as numerous others. The complex is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the first example of this type of Mughal architecture in India. This style of mausoleum was the same that created the Taj Mahal in Agra.

The tomb of Humayun was built by the orders of Hamida Banu Begum, Humayun's widow starting in 1562.


3. Qutab Minar
Qutub Minar is the tallest brick minaret in the world, and an important ex
ample of Indo-Islamic Architecture. The tower is in the Qutb complex in South Delhi, India. The Qutub Minar and its monuments are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Qutub Minar is 72.5 metres high (237.8 ft) with 399 steps leading to the top. The diameter of the base is 14.3 metres wide while the top floor measures 2.75 metres in diameter.

The place where Qutub Minar stands today was once occupied by about 20 Jain temples.

Also located in the Qutab complaex is the Iron pillar of Delhi. It is one of the world's foremost metallurgical curiosities. The pillar is almost seven meters high and weighs more than six tons. It was erected by Chandragupta II Vikramaditya. The pillar is made up of 98% wrought iron of pure quality, and is a testament to the high level of skill achieved by ancient Indian iron smiths in the extraction and processing of iron. It has attracted the attention of archaeologists and metallurgists as it has withstood corrosion for the last 1600 years, despite harsh weather.


4. Old Fort
Old Fort
The Old Fort, also known as the Purana Qila, is one of the most famous monuments in Delhi, and is its oldest historical site. The fort was constructed in the 16th-century by the founder of the Sur Dynasty, Sher Shah Suri. The fort's unique Mughal-Hindu-Afghan architecture makes it a popular tourist destination in Delhi.


5. Mughal Gardens
Spread over an area of 6 hectares, the Mughal Garden was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens for Lady Harding. Mughal Garden is designed in a Mughal style with a blend of British style. Adorned with Mughal style canals, terraces and fountains, Mughal Garden is a circular garden.

Mughal Garden houses four waterways with beautiful fountains at the intersections. The interiors of the waterways are designed in the shape of lotus leaves with the red sandstone discs.

6. Lodhi Gardens Lodhi Garden
Lodhi Gardens contains architectural works of the Lodhis, a pashtun Muslim dynasty which ruled much of Northern India during the 16th century. The gardens are situated between Khan Market and Safdarjung's Tomb on Lodhi Road.

These gardens were laid out in 1936 around four monuments built during the Lodi dynasty, the last of the Delhi Sultanate.




7. Jantar Mantar Jantar Mantar
The Jantar Mantar is a collection of architectural astronomical instruments, built by Maharaja Jai Singh II from 1724 onwards.

The shadows cast by these instruments were formerly used to calculate time, lunar and solar calendars, time as wells astrological movements, all with an incredible degree of accuracy.

Jai Singh later had another similar observatory, now known by the same name, built for him at Jaipur.





8. India Gate
India Gate
Situated on the Rajpath in New Delhi, India Gate (originally called the All India War Memorial) is a monument built by Edwin Lutyens to commemorate the Indian soldiers who died in World War I and the Afghan Wars.

The names of the soldiers who died in these wars are inscribed on the walls. It was completed in 1931. Burning under it since 1971 is the Amar Jawan Jyoti (the flame of the immortal warrior), which marks the Unknown Soldier's Tomb.



9. Lotus Temple India Gate
The Bahá'í House of Worship, popularly known as the Lotus Temple, is a Bahá'í House of Worship and also a prominent attraction in Delhi. It was completed in 1986.

Inspired by the lotus flower, its design is composed of 27 free-standing marble clad "petals" arranged in clusters of three to form nine sides. It was designed by an Iranian architect named Fariborz Sahba.

It has won numerous architectural awards and been featured in hundreds of newspaper and magazine articles.

10. Connaught Place
Connaught Place is Delhi's largest financial, commercial and business center. Located in the heart of New Delhi, India, Connaught Place, often abbreviated as CP, houses the headquarters of several Indian firms.

It is instantly recognizable on any map of Delhi, being the big circle in the middle with radial roads spreading out in all directions, like spokes on a wheel.

Robert Tor Russell, Chief architect to the Government of India designed Connaught Place in 1932 as per the lines propagated by W.H. Nichollas.

Top 10 Ways to go Green: Tips for Leading an Eco-friendly Life

Here are 10 ways to "go green" and contribute towards saving our planet.

1)        Become "Energy conscious": Learn to use energy and resource optimally.

2)        Never miss an opportunity: When it comes to saving and conserving energy, never miss an opportunity. Be it turning off all the lights before going to bed or fixing the leaking tap, use every opportunity to save energy and natural resource. There are lots of opportunities in our daily life to conserve energy such as turning on the air conditioner only when it is essential, not keeping the refrigerator doors open for too long.

3)        Use contraptions that consume less energy: Don't pull out your SUV to pick up some groceries from the neighborhood shop; use a bike or public transport. Better still, walk! Similarly, if you have an aging refrigerator or an old washing machine, chances are that they are consuming more electric power than the newer models; so switch to new ones whenever possible.

4)        Chant "Renewable Energy" mantra: Yes, the renewable energy solutions are not widely available yet. But if you are determined to keep our planet safe, you will find ways to get renewable energy solutions such as solar lighting, solar heating, rain-water harvesting, etc.  

5)        Avoid plastic: Avoid plastic bags for carrying groceries or other stuff. Look for other alternatives such as paper bags and jute bags.

6)        Don't travel alone!: Transportation is one of the greatest contributors of pollution and global warming. So instead of driving your car to work daily think of better alternatives such as public transport or car-pooling.

7)        Recycle: Buy things that are made from recycled stuff such as recycled paper, recycled furniture, etc.

8)        Treasure your trash: Make a commitment to reduce the amount of waste in your home. Think of ways to make use of things like paper, cartons, can that would otherwise end up as waste.

9)        Spread the word: Be the agent of change. Spread eco awareness amongst your family, friends and colleagues. Teach your kids how to conserve energy and natural resources.

10)    Don't be ashamed: Don't feel shy or embarrassed or ashamed to practice "greener" habits. Your neighbors may laugh at you when you install solar lamps in your garden or you may be the subject of gossip when you refuse to use paper cups in the office. But don't get discouraged; instead, use this as an opportunity to spread the awareness and encourage them to go green.
